“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.” Ephesians 2:4-5

The Bible says that we cannot follow God without God's help. We are like dead skeletons. Dead skeletons have no muscles, no brain, and no heart. They have no power to move on their own. But God can make those dead skeletons live again. The Bible says that God makes us alive in Christ Jesus. He gives us power to make wise choices, power to obey him, power to live.

Work it out: Dead and Alive

Before something can be brought back to life, it has to first be dead. Have your kids pretend to be dead--perfectly silent and still. Can a dead man move? Can a dead man talk? Can a dead man get up and walk? Say, "We were dead in our sins." Then, shout out, "But God made us alive!" Everyone stand up and dance around because you're alive! Say, "We're not skeletons! God has made us alive!" Practice it again and again as you say the memory verse

Read it:

Read Ezekiel 37:1-14 to your kids.

Talk about it:

  • Can a dead skeleton dance around without muscles and a brain to help it?
  • Can we obey God's voice without his help?
  • What happened when Ezekiel preached to the bones?

Hide it in your heart:

Memorize this definition, question and answer, and the accompanying Bible verse.

Resurrecting Grace: When we were dead, God made us alive!

Q&A: Can you come to God in your own power? No. We are dead in sin, and we need the Holy Spirit to make us alive.

“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5

Holy Spirit, we are dead without you. We need you to come and make us alive.
