sojournkids at homeHappy Mother’s Day! This week’s SojournKids Bible lesson was “Jacob and Rachel” (Genesis 29). Use the questions below to review it with your kids. You can also review the weekly North Star Catechism (below) and monthly SWORD Bible Memory (back).

READ Genesis 29 or Story 19 in the Gospel Story Bible

ASK: Laban wanted to pay Jacob for his work. What did Jacob choose for his payment? Jacob chose Rachel. He wanted to marry her.

ASK: Why did Jacob choose Rachel? Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful (Genesis 29:17), and Jacob loved her. He said he’d work seven years if he could marry Rachel.

ASK: Why did God choose Leah? The Bible doesn’t tell us. It just tells us that when God saw Leah was unloved, he had compassion on her and gave her children (Genesis 29:31). God chooses surprising people.

Check out the daily devotionals that correspond with this week’s lesson in Long Story Short by Marty Machowski, week 19.  This week’s North Star catechism question is…

32.  What is sin? Sin is saying “No” to God and doing what we want instead of what God wants.

1 John 3:4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
