Leader 1 & 2: Hi, I'm Mr./Ms. (First name)!

Leader 1: Good morning/evening!! I have a question for you: Is our God Great!? [Yes!] Im sorry, Im not sure I could hear you all. I said, IS OUR GOD GREAT?!? [YEAH!!] Alright!! We have a song all about how GREAT He is! Lets sing it together!

“Oh, Great is Our God” by Brian Eichelberger

Leader 2: Our memory verse this month is Exodus 20:12! Repeat after me:

"Honor" = bow down, both arms in front, palms down

"your father" = turn left palm up

"and your mother" = turn right palm up (they echo here)

"so that you may live long" = put palms together, arms straight out to your right, and move your left arm over the top of your head and all the way to the other (left) side (they echo here)

"in the land" = spread your arms out in front, palms up

"the Lord your God" = both hands point up

"is giving to you." = bring open hands down, palms up, extend arms forward like offering a gift

Leader 1: This memory verse is from Gods 10 commandments, which were the rules He has given to His people, including us! He gave us these commands AFTER He had shown His love to Israel, and after He has shown His love to us. His rules show us how to OBEY Him, and He also told us that when we OBEY, we are showing Him that we LOVE Him! Obedience is a way to Love God! Jesus said this too: If you love me, you will obey my commands. What are some other ways we show God that we love him? [allow for 2-3 answers, then supply this one if it isnt given:] Thats right! We can show God we love Him by giving Him an offering, a gift to Him from what He has given us. As we sing this next song, you can bring your offering to God!

Leader 1:

As we learn about Gods chosen people, Israel, and their story in the book of Exodus, we have heard about how often the mess up, disobey, and dont trust God! Can you tell me some stories that you remember about the Israelites disobeying or distrusting God? [allow 2-3 answers; grumbling in the wilderness; building the golden calf; wanting to turn back before the Red Sea, ect.] Wow! Those Israelites seemed to have a lot of problems trusting God! But the amazing thing about God is that He was still faithful, good, and loving to them anyway, because they were His chosen people.

Are we any better at obeying or trusting God than the Israelites? Do we have trouble trusting God? What are some ways that you have struggled to obey God or trust God recently? [Allow a few answers; offer your own confession if answers are slow] Thats right we ALL have fallen short of obeying God perfectly.  But just as God was faithful to Israel, to continue to save them, God has made a way for us to be made right with Him. He sent Jesus to live a perfect life for us, and to take on the punishment we deserved on the Cross. This next song is called The Gospel Song, and its the story of just that the good news that God has made a way for us sinners to come back to a relationship with Him. Lets sing it together!

Leader 1: Hey, who can tell me what time it is? (Catechism time!!)

(Play Catechism riff like “Tequila”: G-F-G-F x3, G-F-G “Catechism!”)

Leader 2: Here is our question for this week! I’ll read the question and you will all read the answer together! [If you have an especially active older kid, you can ask them to read the question out loud for everyone to respond to]

Weeks 1, 2, and 3 - Who can obey God’s law? No one but Jesus can obey Gods law perfectly.

Week 4 (October 25) - If no one can obey God’s law, why did God give it? God gave the law to show us his goodness, to show us our sin, and to show us we need Jesus.

Leader 2: Lets pray! Bow your heads and fold your hands and close your eyes as we talk to God! Father God, we thank You for sending Jesus to be our Teacher, our Friend, our Brother, and our Savior. Jesus, we praise You for going to cross to die and defeating death for us! Holy Spirit, please fill our hearts today so we can know and love You more. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Instruct all kids to sit down, then dismiss by one age group at a time: Preschool, then Kindergarten, then instruct Elementary to move up for the lesson.
