Leader 1 & 2: Hi, I'm Mr./Ms. (First name)!

Leader 1: Good morning/evening!! I have a question: Do you know what it means that we are God’s kids? [allow for 2-3 kids to answer] God is our perfect heavenly Father, and that is just one of the gifts He gives to us when we are in Christ! Let’s sing a new song together, praising God that we are His kids by His grace!

“Kids” by Citizens & Saints

Leader 2: Our memory verse this month is Joel 2:13! Can you repeat it after me?

“Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.”

Hand motions:

Return: Motion “come back” with both hands in front

to the Lord: point to the sky with L hand, keep it up

Your God: With L hand up, use R hand to point out to the crowd, then to point to the sky

For He is gracious: make a R-hand fist a little above & in front of your head, then open hand and finger as you move your R hand to cover heart

And compassionate: place R palm on chest, then push palm out towards crowd

Slow to anger: place R hand on top of L, palms down, and slide R hand towards you on top of L hand; put hands on hips and furrow your brow (make an angry face)

And abounding in love: Open arms wide to each side, cross hands over heart

Leader 1: Who can raise their hand and tell me: [Always accept 3-4 answers; guide them if needed to the right response; for weeks beyond 4, ask for volunteers to say the verse from memory or to explain the verse.]

• Week 1: What does GRACIOUS mean? [being kind or generous to someone who doesn’t deserve it] And how has God been gracious to you? [forgiving me, giving me good gifts of friends and family, sending Jesus to earth.]

• Week 2: What does COMPASSIONATE mean? [caring, being concerned when someone is hurting, taking care of someone in need] How has God been compassionate to you? [He has healed me from sadness, He took away my sin, etc.]

• Week 3: What does SLOW to ANGER mean? [patient, not hottempered] How has God been slow to anger with you? [he doesn’t make me become perfect just to know him, He gives me lots of chances.]

Leader 2: Why do we take time each week to memorize bible verses? [The Bible is God’s Word, it gives us wisdom, it tells us about God and helps us to know Him.] That’s right! God promised that His Word will stand FOREVER! Let’s sing a song about that!

“The Word of the Lord” by Seeds Family Worship

Leader 1: It is so wonderful to worship God with you! We can worship by singing, and by giving an offering, which you can do now! We also worship God with our bodies, sometimes by DANCING! Are you ready to boogie?!!

“We're No Skeletons” by Jeremy Quillo

Leader 1: Hey, who can tell me what time it is? (Catechism time!!)

(Play Catechism riff like “Tequila”: G-F-G-F x3, G-F-G “Catechism!”)

Leader 2: Here is our question for this month! I’ll read the question and you will all read the answer together! [If you have an especially active older kid, you can ask them to read the question out loud for everyone to respond to]

Q: What is God like? A: God is slow to anger, merciful and loving.

Leader 2: Let’s pray! Let’s sit down… Bow your heads… and fold your hands… and close your eyes… and let’s talk to God! Father God, we thank You for sending Jesus to be our Teacher, our Friend, our Brother, and our Savior. Jesus, we praise You for going to cross to die and defeating death for us! Holy Spirit, please fill our hearts today so we can know and love You more. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Instruct all kids to sit down, then dismiss by one age group at a time: Preschool, then Kindergarten, then instruct Elementary to move up for the lesson.
