This Week in SojournKids: Jesus and the Doubter (John 20:24-29)

Josh RobertsComment

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background:  When Jesus appeared to his disciples Thomas was not there. When the disciples told Thomas that they had seen and even shared a meal with Jesus he did not believe. In fact he said that he would only believe if he could touch and see his wounds. Thomas doubted that Jesus had actually risen from the dead. Eight days later the disciples were together and Jesus once again appeared despite the doors being locked. He told Thomas to touch and see his wounds. Thomas believed.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  Have you ever heard a story that you just couldn’t believe? What was the story? Why was it so hard to believe?

Read John 20:24-29

Questions/Apply it:

  • Who was not there when Jesus appeared to the disciples?
  • Did he believe at first?
  • What did Jesus let Thomas do so that he would believe?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for sending your son Jesus to earth to die on a cross for our sins. We pray that we would not doubt your almighty power. God we thank you that even though we doubt like Thomas, you are still so faithful. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: What is our mission as believers? Our mission as believers is to make disciples of all nations by the power of the Spirit.

Memory Verse: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
