This Week in SojournKids: Jesus Appears to the Disciples (Luke 24:36-49; John 20:19-23)

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background:  The disciples were all together and were fearing for their lives. Due to this fear they locked all the doors. Jesus appeared there to them and they thought that he was some sort of spirit. He assured them that he was not a spirit and he showed them the wounds on his hands and feet. He sat down and ate with them while he explained scripture to them and gave them the power of the Holy Spirit to forgive sins.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  How do we use our five senses everyday? If we see something with our own eyes are we more likely to believe it? Do you think the disciples truly believed once they saw the wounds of Jesus and saw him there with them?

Read Luke 24:36-49; John 20:19-23

Questions/Apply it:

  • What were the disciples afraid of?
  • What did Jesus show the disciples?
  • What did Jesus tell the disciples?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for sending your son Jesus to earth to die on a cross for our sins. We pray that we would not doubt your almighty power. We pray that we would have a faith that leans on what was accomplished on the cross. God we thank you for your love. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: Why did Jesus die on the cross? Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and came back to life to show we are forgiven.

Memory Verse: It is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
