This Week in SojournKids: Jesus’ Resurrection (John 20:1-18)

Josh RobertsComment

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background: Three days after Jesus’ death Mary and other women brought spices to put on Jesus’ body. When they arrived to the tomb they saw where the stone had been rolled away and there was a shining someone siting on it. There were asked why they were looking for Jesus and that he was alive! They immediately ran to tell their friends.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  Have you ever been surprised by something? Do you like being surprised? Do you think Mary, Peter, and John were surprised that Jesus was alive?

Read John 20:1-18

Questions/Apply it:

  • How many days was Jesus in the tomb?
  • What did Mary and the other women bring with them to Jesus’ tomb?
  • What happened to the stone?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for sending your son Jesus to earth to die on a cross for our sins. We praise you for the fact that three days later he rose again to conquer death.  We pray that we can take refuge in the fact that our sins were forgiven by the work done by Jesus on the cross. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: Why did Jesus die on the cross? Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and came back to life to show we are forgiven.

Memory Verse: It is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
