This Week in SojournKids: Jesus Gave the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20)

Josh RobertsComment

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background:  Jesus instructed the disciples to meet him on a mountain in Galilee. When the disciples saw Jesus they worshipped him, though some doubted. Jesus then instructs the disciples go and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He then reminds them that he is with them always, to the end of the age.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  Has anyone ever given you a job to do? How did that make you feel? Was the job hard?

Read Matthew 28:16-20

Questions/Apply it:

  • Where did Jesus tell his disciples to meet him?
  • What did Jesus tell his disciples?
  • How long did Jesus say that he would be with his disciples?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for sending your son Jesus to earth to die on a cross for our sins. We pray that we can make disciples to the glory of your name. We thank you that just like the disciples you are with us always. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: What is our mission as believers? Our mission as believers is to make disciples of all nations by the power of the Spirit.

Memory Verse: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
