This Week in SojournKids: Jesus Met Nicodemus (John 3:1-21)

Josh RobertsComment

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background: Late one night a man named Nicodemus came to see Jesus. Nicodemus was a Pharisee. That means he was a religious leader and teacher of God’s law. Nicodemus was interested in Jesus and wondered who He was so he came to see Jesus at night. Jesus told Nicodemus that He was the Messiah. He also told Nicodemus that no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they were born again.

Opening/Ice Breaker: Have you ever met someone new? Who was it? How did you meet them? This week we learned about Jesus meeting a man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus went to visit Jesus at night. Why do you think he did that? (Nicodemus had questions about who Jesus was.) Who did Jesus say He is? Jesus said He was the Messiah.

Read John 3:1-21

Questions/Apply it:

  • Who visited Jesus? (Nicodemus, John 3:1-2)
  • What did Jesus say must happen for a person to see the kingdom of God? (A person must be born again, John 3:3)
  • How did God show His love to the world? (He gave His One and Only Son, John 3:16)
  • Who did Jesus say He is? Jesus said He is the Messiah.

Prayer: God we thank you for loving us enough to send your son. We pray that many will be born again and enter into the kingdom of God. Thank you God for your Word. Amen.
