This Week in SojournKids: Jesus Met a Samaritan Woman (John 4:1-42)

Josh RobertsComment

Parents,

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background: This week’s story was about Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus and his disciples arrived in Sychar and Jesus sat down at a well. He saw a woman coming to the well and he asked her for a drink of water. This was strange because men and women usually did not speak to each other in public. More importantly Jews did not associate with Samaritans. Jesus goes on to offer her living water. Jesus showed love to her despite her sin. Jesus shows this same love to us.

Opening/Ice Breaker: Describe a time when you needed something really badly. Did someone have what you needed? Did they give it to you? How did it make you feel to receive what you needed? This week we learned about Jesus meeting a Samaritan woman at the well. Jesus knew exactly what that woman needed and he gave it to her.  Jesus knows what we really need, and He provides.

Read John 4:1-42

Questions/Apply it:

  • What did you learn about Jesus that makes you thankful to him?

  • What opportunities will you have to show your thankfulness this week?

  • How can you remember Jesus at those times?

  • Who did Jesus say He is? Jesus said He is the Messiah.

Prayer: God we thank you for loving us enough to send your son. We give thanks that you know what we need and you provide for us. We thank you for your love. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.
