This Week in SojournKids: Jesus has Power Over Evil (Mark 5:1-20)

Josh RobertsComment

Parents,

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background: Jesus stepped off a boat and was immediately approached by a man possessed by an evil spirit. This man lived among the tombs. He was very strong. There were attempts to chuckle and chain him, but he was so strong that he broke through them. When this man saw Jesus he ran to him and fell down at his feet. He cried out to Jesus and said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Do not torment me.” Jesus commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man and asked the name of the spirit. The spirit called himself legion, describing many spirits. Jesus sent the spirits into a flock of pigs and the pigs drowned in the sea. The people were scared when they heard what Jesus had done. The man healed from the spirits begged to go with Jesus as he left the area. Jesus told him to go tell his family all that God had done for him.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  Who is your favorite super hero? Why are they your favorite? Did you know that Jesus is more powerful than any super hero you can imagine? What did Jesus heal people from? Jesus healed people from sickness, sin, and death.
