This Week in SojournKids: Paul’s First Missionary Journey (Acts 13:1-3; 14:8-28)

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background:  The Holy Spirit set apart Barnabas and Paul to be sent out to spread the Gospel. Paul and Barnabas went to a place called Lystra. They see a man there that can not walk and they heal him. When the crowds see what happen they began to worship Paul and Barnabas and wanted to offer sacrifices to them. Paul and Barnabas plead with the people to put down these vain things and worship the one true God. After this Jews came from other towns and persuaded the crowd to stone Paul. They drug him outside of the city because they thought he was dead, but the next day he went back and continued to do the work he had began with Barnabas. They appointed elders to the churches in Lystra. From there they continued to travel and share the good news of the Gospel everywhere they went.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  Have any of you ever been on a trip? Where did you go? What was the most fun part about the trip?

Read Acts 13:1-3; 14:8-28

Questions/Apply it:

  • What two men were set apart by the Holy Spirit?
  • Where did they go?
  • What did the people do to Paul?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for your word. We thank you for the work done in Paul and Barnabas’ life and the great impact it had. We pray that we can be reminded of Paul and Barnabas and the great faith they had in the mission of sharing the Gospel. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: How do people hear about Jesus? God uses Christians to tell others about Jesus so they may repent and be saved.

Memory Verse: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
