Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week. We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.
Dinner Time (Deep Dive)
READ the story together. (Genesis 24)
ASK some questions about the story.
Who were the main characters? (God, Abraham, Isaac, and Rebekah.)
What are the main story beats? (Abraham sends a servant to find Isaac a wife; The servant selects Rebekah; Isaac marries Rebekah.)
What’s the main point? (God gave Isaac a wife to keep his covenant with Abraham.)
CONNECT it to the family.
God has a plan for our family and He will provide for us exactly what we need. We must have faith and trust that God will do what is best.
God, we thank you for the plan that you had to send your son to die on the cross for our sins. We pray that we can have faith like Abraham and trust that you will provide. Amen.
Drive Time (Quick Refresh)
ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (Isaac and Rebekah)
See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.
REMIND them of the main point.
God gave Isaac a wife to keep His covenant with Abraham.
Bedtime (Soul Work)
ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week.
God provided a wife for Isaac. What does He provide for us?
Does God care about the small details of our lives?
How can knowing that God is powerful and in control help us to trust Him?
ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise.
God keeps his promises and will always provide.
RELATE to them.
God has a plan for your life. He sent His son to die for our sins. We can trust that God will always do what is best for us.
PRAY for them before they go to sleep.
Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)
ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today.
At school as they’re working, playing, talking with friends, etc.
God has a plan and will provide.
PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.
REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.
Gospel Project Big Picture Question: Why can we trust God? We can trust God because he is faithful and does everything for His glory and our good.
Memory Verse: Galatians 3:29 – “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”
