This Week in SojournKids: Paul's Third Journey (Acts 18:1-4, 24-28; 20:17-38)

Parents,

We're trying something new!  Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week.  We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.

Dinner Time (Deep Dive)

READ the story together.  (Acts 18:1-4, 24-28; 20:17-38)

ASK some questions about the story.

  • Who were the main characters? (Paul, Aquilla, Priscilla, and Apollos.)
  • What are the main story beats? (Paul went from Athens to Corinth and met Aquilla and Priscilla; Paul speaks boldly and is encouraged in the faith by the church in Ephesus; Paul delivers a message to the believers in Ephesus.)
  • What’s the main point? (God helped Paul preach with courage even though he was in danger.)

CONNECT it to the family.

Paul felt scared about the danger that he faced. We can all feel scared like Paul did. Even mom and dad get scared and unsure about things. The good news is that God gives us the courage to accomplish things that we never thought we could do. Just like Paul preached with courage we can pursue all things with courage.

PRAY together.

God, we thank you for your word and we thank you for the ministry of Paul. We pray that we can be reminded of the courage that you gave Paul in times of trouble. Amen.

Drive Time (Quick Refresh)

ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (Pauls Third Journey)

  • See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.

REMIND them of the main point.

  • God helped Paul preach with courage even though he was in danger. God gives us that same courage.

Bedtime (Soul Work)

ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week (do you ever get scared? Why do you think that is? What makes things better when you are scared?)

ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise (when things get scary God is with you; God gives us courage in times of trouble; we can remember the courage Paul had when we feel scared)

RELATE Mom and Dad get sacred sometimes too; God gives us all courage in times of need; it’s God’s grace that keeps us going each day

PRAY for them before they go to sleep.

Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)

ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today at school as they’re working, playing, talking with friends, etc.; there’s courage for them as they make mistakes, get upset or frustrated, or have trouble with friends.

PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: How do people hear about Jesus? God uses Christians to tell others about Jesus so they may repent and be saved.

Memory Verse: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
