This Week in SojournKids: The Message: “Christ Alone” (Acts 15:1-35)

Josh RobertsComment

We'd love for you to use this short devotional to review this week's story with your kids.

Background:  Paul and Barnabas go before the Jerusalem council to argue against the requirement of circumcision. They proclaimed that eternal life is only given through the sacrifice made by Christ on the cross and not by following the law. They argue against Old Testament law and point the council to the new covenant made by Christ. They proclaimed that the eternal life that Christ offers is for both Jew and Gentile. The council agreed with Paul and Barnabas and wrote a letter to the congregation of Antioch and they all rejoiced.

Opening/Ice Breaker:  Have you ever been confused about something? What was it? How did you feel when you realized you were wrong?

Read Acts 15:1-35

Questions/Apply it:

  • What two men went before the council?
  • What did they say gave eternal life?
  • Who was eternal life for?

Prayer: Lord we thank you for your word. We thank you for the work done in Paul and Barnabas’ life and the great impact it had. We pray that we can be reminded of Paul and Barnabas and the great faith they had in the mission of sharing the Gospel. Amen.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: How do people hear about Jesus? God uses Christians to tell others about Jesus so they may repent and be saved.

Memory Verse: You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8
