This Week in SojournKids: Noah and the Ark (Genesis 6-9)

Josh RobertsComment

Parents,

Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week.  We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.

Dinner Time (Deep Dive)

READ the story together.  (Genesis 6-9)

ASK some questions about the story.

  • Who were the main characters? (God and Noah.)

  • What are the big story beats? (The world becomes very corrupt and sinful; God tasks Noah with building an ark for his family and all the animals God included; god promises to never flood the earth again.)

  • What’s the main point? (God punished sin but chose to rescue Noah and his family.)

CONNECT it to the family.

  • God punished the evil sin in the world. His promise to never punish the earth with a flood again applies to us. God loves us despite of our sin.

PRAY together.

God, we thank you for your love for us despite our sin, and for the plan you have for your creation. Amen.

Drive Time (Quick Refresh)

ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (Noah and the Ark)

  • See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.

REMIND them of the main point.

  • God punished sin but chose to rescue Noah and his family.

Bedtime (Soul Work)

ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week.

  • Why do you think God punished sin?

  • What was God’s greater plan to deal with sin?

  • Where do you see God’s mercy in this Bible story?

ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise.

  • God punished sin, but his greater plan was to send a savior.

RELATE to them.

  • We must be reminded that we are all born sinners.

  • God promised to never punish the world like that again.

  • His ultimate goal was to send his son to take the punishment for sin.

PRAY for them before they go to sleep.

Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)

ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today.

  • At school as they’re working, playing, talking with friends, etc.

  • God promised to never punish the world again and to send us a savior.

PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: Who is God? God is our Creator and King.

Memory Verse: Colossians 1:16-17 – “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
