Joshua’s Final Encouragement (Joshua 23:1-24:28)

Josh RobertsComment

Parents,

Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week.  We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.

Dinner Time (Deep Dive)

READ the story together.  (Joshua 23:1-24:28)

ASK some questions about the story.

  • Who were the main characters? (Joshua, God, and His People.)

  • What are the main story beats? (Joshua charges the leaders; The covenant is renewed; Joshua encourages the people.)

  • What’s the main point? (Joshua encouraged the people to worship God alone.)

CONNECT it to the family.

  • We are to worship God and God alone. Things can come into our lives and act as gods. Things like video games, sports, and social media.

PRAY together.

God, we pray that we would worship you alone. We pray that all our actions would glorify your name. We love you Lord. Amen.

Drive Time (Quick Refresh)

ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (Joshua’s Final Encouragement)

  • See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.

REMIND them of the main point.

  • Joshua encouraged the people to worship God alone.

Bedtime (Soul Work)

ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week.

  • What does this story teach about God or the Gospel?

  • What is something you feel like you worship other than God?

  • Whom can we trust? We can trust God to take care of us.

ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise.

  • We are commanded by God to worship Him.

RELATE to them.

  • God loves us and wants what is best for us. In return we should worship him with our entire lives.

PRAY for them before they go to sleep.

Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)

ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today.

  • Be encouraged that God will be with you today – when things are easy and when things are hard!

PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: Whom can we trust? We can trust God to take care of us.

Memory Verse: Joshua 1:9 - “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
