Gideon (Judges 6-8)

Josh RobertsComment

Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week.  We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.

Dinner Time (Deep Dive)

READ the story together.  (Judges 6-8)

ASK some questions about the story.

  • Who were the main characters? (Gideon, God, God’s People)

  • What are the main story beats? (God calls Gideon to rescue his people from the Midianites; Gideon asks for a sign before he answers God’s call; Gideon rescues God’s People.)

  • What’s the main point? (God uses Gideon’s weakness for his glory.)

CONNECT it to the family.

  • God loves us because we are created in his image. He can use us for his glory even through our weakness. Mom and Dad love you despite the mistakes you make. We want the best for you and will support you no matter what you do.

PRAY together.

God, we thank you for the story of Gideon. We thank you that despite his weakness you were able to save your people through him. We pray that you can use us the same way.

Drive Time (Quick Refresh)

ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (Gideon)

  • See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.

REMIND them of the main point.

  • God used Gideon’s weakness for his glory.

Bedtime (Soul Work)

ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week.

  • What sign did Gideon request from God?

  • How many men were left after they drank the water?

  • How does this story point to Jesus?

ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise.

  • God used Gideon despite his weakness and God can use you despite your weakness. God can do great things through you.

RELATE to them.

  • God has a plan for your life and can work his will through your life. Whether you feel like you’re good enough or not, God loves you and wants to use you for his success.

PRAY for them before they go to sleep.

Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)

ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today.

  • Be encouraged that God will be with you today – when things are easy and when things are hard!

PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.
