Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 1-4)

Josh RobertsComment

Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week.  We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.

Dinner Time (Deep Dive)

READ the story together.  (Ruth 1-4)

ASK some questions about the story.

  • Who were the characters? (Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz.)

  • What are the main story beats? (Naomi loses her husband and sons, Ruth remains loyal to Naomi, Boaz redeems Ruth.)

  • What’s the main point? (God provided a redeemer for Ruth.)

CONNECT it to the family.

  • In the same way that Ruth stood by Naomi’s side is the way that we are called to stick together as a family. We should love each other with the same love that Ruth showed Naomi.

PRAY together.

God, we thank you for the cross. We thank you that you sent us a redeemer. We thank you for your love for us. Amen.

Drive Time (Quick Refresh)

ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (Ruth and Boaz)

  • See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.

REMIND them of the main point.

  • God provided a redeemer for Ruth.

Bedtime (Soul Work)

ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week.

  • Why was it strange that Ruth remains loyal to Naomi?

  • How did Boaz redeem Ruth?

  • Who is the redeemer God sent us?

ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise.

  • God provided a redeemer for Ruth and God provided a redeemer for us as well. In the same way Boaz redeemed Ruth Jesus redeemed us by dying on a cross for our sins.

RELATE to them.

  • God loves you and sent Jesus to die on the cross for your sins. Jesus death and resurrection redeems you back to God wiping away all your sins.

PRAY for them before they go to sleep.

Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)

ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today.

  • At school as they’re working, playing, talking with friends, etc.

PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.

REVIEW one of these doctrine memory questions, or the month’s memory verse by having your kids repeat it after you.

Gospel Project Big Picture Question: How does God accomplish His plan? God uses people for His glory and our good.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 33:22 - “The Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us.”
