Below are some devotional helps to use throughout the week. We'd love for you to use some or even all of these to review this week's story with your kids.
Dinner Time (Deep Dive)
READ the story together. (2 Samuel 7)
ASK some questions about the story.
Who were the main characters? (David and God.)
What are the main story beats? (David decided to build God a temple, God promise David big things, God denied David the right to build the temple.)
What’s the main point? (God promised that Jesus would come from David’s family.)
CONNECT it to the family.
God is faithful. He always keeps his promises. We as a family aspire to be true to our word. We pray that we can model what God has modeled in the life of David.
God, we thank you for your promises. We thank you that you are faithful. We love you Lord. Amen.
Drive Time (Quick Refresh)
ASK what story we’ve been studying this week. (God Made a Covenant with David)
See what they remember from the story – details, main points, any take away they have, etc.
REMIND them of the main point.
God promised that Jesus would come from David’s family.
Bedtime (Soul Work)
ASK how they feel about what we’ve been learning about this week.
What kind of house did David live in?
What did the ark of God sit in?
God said David’s kingdom would last how long?
ENCOURAGE them about the truth of God’s promise.
God is faithful and loves us so much. We keeps his promises to us.
RELATE to them.
God has a plan for your life and will be faithful to accomplish his will through you. Take hope in the fact that God loves you and cares for you.
PRAY for them before they go to sleep.
Breakfast Time (Daily Encouragement)
ENCOURAGE them to trust God’s promise today.
At school as they’re working, playing, talking with friends, etc.
PRAY for them before you drop them off to start their day.
