Last Two Sundays: Learner and Missionary

UncategorizedJared KennedyComment

Over the past two weeks in SojournKids, we studied the church's Missionary and Learner identities. For the Learner identity, we studied the story of Jesus calling the twelve disciples from Luke 5:1-11, and we learned that:

  • Jesus called three fishermen to be His first disciples
  • Disciples are people who follow Jesus and learn from Him.
  • Jesus promised to teach His disciples to "fish for people."

For the Missionary identity, we studied the Great Commission from Matthew 28:16-20, and we learned that:

  • Jesus sent out his disciples as missionaries.
  • God's missionaries go all over the world to tell others about Him.
  • Jesus promises to go with us on mission.

This week in SojournKids, we studied the story of Jesus changing water into wine from John 2:1-12, and we learned that:

  • A wedding is a celebration where a new family is made.
  • Jesus went to a wedding celebration
  • Jesus blessed the wedding celebration by turning water into wine.

Thursday Book Club: What is the Church?

UncategorizedJared KennedyComment

Today's Thursday Book Club involves a bit of self-promotion. What is the Church? is Sojourn’s second children’s book, written by Mandy Groce and Bill Bell.   What Is The Church? was written to teach preschool children that the church is not a building. It is a people that God has called together and made alive by faith.  The book teaches the five Christian identities which every believer should embody.  This is the concept behind the second part of our current Faith-Mapping sermon series.  And you can see it explained simply in this Sojourn Vision video from last year:

I'm highlighting the book now, because this is a great way to teach the concepts you're learning in Sunday Gatherings to your kids when you are at home.  Get the book.  Pick up a copy at the book table on Sunday or purchase it online here. Then, talk to your kids over the next few weeks about how you're learning to be a worshiper, family member, servant, learner, and missionary.
